"In my opinion, the trombone is the true head of that family of wind instruments which I have named the epic one. It possesses nobility and grandeur to the highest degree; it has all the serious and powerful tones of sublime musical poetry, from religious calm and imposing accents, to savage, orgiastic outbursts. Directed by the will of a master, the trombones can chant like a choir of priests, threaten, utter gloomy sighs, a mournful lament or a bright hymn of glory. They can break forth into awe-inspiring cries, and awaken the dead or doom the living with their fearful voices." -Hector Berlioz

Welcome to the LBJ Trombone web site. Below, you can read about the latest updates and additions. The links at left go to separate parts of the site. If you are using Internet Explorer 4 or 5, move your mouse over any link and leave it there; a short description of that page will appear.

2002.08.23 - Whoa. It's been a year since I last posted anything here, but I'm still getting e-mails about the site, so I figure I'll drop by and fill you people in on some things:

1. Somehow, amazingly, this site continues to get a decent amount of traffic (418 hits in the last 30 days, according to my server's stat software). Also, oddly enough, this site has worked its way up to page 3 of a Google search for "trombones". Obviously somebody's getting a kick out of it, so I'll leave it up.
2. Most of the information on this website is two school years old by now. For information and news you can actually use, pay a visit to Patrick Nance's budding band web page. This site will remain as a testament to my HTML skilz and for the resources it contains. However, nothing will be updated or revised anymore.
3. As far as I know, nobody at LBJ renewed the lbjband.org domain name, so any links to that on this site will be broken and remain as such. Period. I'm not about to go through the entire site and change it all.
4. Also, as some of you may know, I used to maintain the band web site when it was located at lbjband.org. I no longer have those files on my computer, so please do not ask for a random item from the old site; I cannot help you. The commies at STAC, however, probably can, since the site was run off of their servers.
5. I am a sophomore at The University of Texas, and no longer attend LBJ. Likewise, I am not affiliated with the LBJ Band anymore, other than the fact that I am an alum and former officer and drop by very occasionally. Please do not e-mail me with your questions about the upcoming band schedule or happenings at the school; I cannot help you. For that, once again, go to Patrick's page.
6. Most of the e-mail addresses on the "trombone players" page are almost guaranteed to be unreliable. Please do not e-mail me asking for current e-mail addresses of current or past trombone players; chances are, I probably cannot help you. MY e-mail address, however, has not changed.
7. I let the "lbjtrombones" eGroup be deleted due to inactivity, and eGroups has since been acquired by Yahoo, so the e-mail address in the "section-wide e-mail" link will not work.
8. If you want to e-mail me about trombone-related things that don't have anything to do with LBJ, please do. Someone e-mailed me this past winter asking for some input on a school project on trombones she was working on. I'll be glad to help out on such things, time permitting.
9. Yep, I knew it... the LBJ web page still sucks. Way to go, STAC!
10. Unlike my profile says on this site, I no longer drive the Buick. Last December I bought a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder from a nice couple in Steiner Ranch.
11. Unlike the picture at the bottom of this page would seem to suggest, I no longer use ICQ. The best way to talk to me online is via AOL Instant Messenger at Paradox183.
12. If you're a fellow alum and want to meet at an LBJ football game this year (Pat's page has the schedule) and reminisce of the good ol' days, e-mail me. But please, ladies, don't get your hopes up too high - I do have a girlfriend.

Anyway, I've already spent way too much time working on this update of sorts, so enjoy what's still here and have a nice day.

Upcoming events in the band
Now that band is back in full swing, the first major event comes August 14, when, unfortunately, school starts. After that is the AISD Marching Band Jamboree on Thursday, August 24, at which we will give our first performance of the year.

June Quote of the Month: "I'm looking forward to see the band turn into a Boneocracy." -Alex Dotte, written in Waldo's yearbook, on the fact that most major officer positions in the band (President, Head Drum Major, HR Pres., Brass Captain) are held by trombonists.
