Behind the Scenes

Although it might look like a piece of cake to the layman, web design can get pretty involved, depending on what kind of design you want. Basically, there are 4 main stages of web site development:
  1. Graphics - It's always best to complete the graphics for the website first so you can design the site around them.
  2. HTML - Next is the big ugly task of writing all the HTML. Although some programs will write the HTML for you, it's always best to do it yourself so you can blame it on yourself when it doesn't look right :)
  3. Testing - Previewing each page in the browser window to make sure it looks good.
  4. Uploading - Posting the site on the web server for all to see.
I captured the HTML, testing, and uploading stages of the development of this site (Paint Shop Pro wouldn't let me snap pictures of the graphics). Keep in mind this is the OLD format shown here.

Development
This is a screen capture of the JavaScript that displays the date and time. Something that seems so simple takes 24 lines of code.

Testing
Screen capture of... hey, that's this page! :) You can see the JavaScript date/time script at work on the left side of the page under the menu.

Massive Upload!
Final stage of web site development: the huge upload at the very end. You can't know how triumphant you feel during this stage. A huge sense of accomplishment just kind of takes you over and you start to drool. :)
